General Info

Gohan No Aida sits quietly at 26 Hanashibacho, Nara, 630-8266, Japan, and feels like the kind of place locals keep coming back to without thinking twice. This is a classic Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant, where everyday Japanese comfort food is served with care, warmth, and a strong sense of balance. From the moment you step inside, the cosy and casual atmosphere sets the tone for an easy, satisfying meal, whether you’re stopping by for lunch or settling in for a relaxed dine-in experience.

The menu focuses on familiar flavors done right, and the 天ぷらのランチセット is a standout for good reason. Light, crisp, and never greasy, the tempura feels freshly made to order. The 天ぷら定食の天ぷら brings together perfectly fried pieces that showcase both texture and flavor, especially the エビと野菜の天ぷら, where juicy shrimp and seasonal vegetables are coated in a delicate batter that stays airy until the last bite. These dishes feel thoughtfully composed, not rushed, which adds to the overall experience.

Beyond tempura, Gohan No Aida offers comforting homemade-style dishes that feel deeply satisfying. The 肉団子 are tender and well-seasoned, offering a rich, savory bite that pairs beautifully with rice. The ロールキャベツ adds another layer of comfort, with soft cabbage wrapped around flavorful filling, simmered gently until everything comes together. These dishes make the restaurant feel more like a neighborhood kitchen than a commercial dining spot.

Service options are simple and convenient. You can enjoy a relaxed dine-in meal, or opt for delivery when you want the same comforting flavors at home. Lunch service is especially popular, drawing in guests who appreciate hearty, well-balanced meals served efficiently but never carelessly. Reviews often highlight how consistent the food is, and how the calm atmosphere makes it easy to enjoy a meal without distractions.

Gohan No Aida blends quality, comfort, and authenticity in a way that feels genuine. The location is easy to reach, the menu is focused yet satisfying, and the overall experience reflects what a good Syokudo and Teishoku restaurant should be-unpretentious, reliable, and deeply enjoyable.

What customers say?

“ Came across this restaurant by chance. They had only 2 items on their menu and I had the deep fried meat balls set. I’m surprised by how delicious it is! It looks really simple but it tasted healthy and super good. This deserves the 5 stars rating. ”

“ Cutest little restaurant in Nara, perfect to escape the overcharged touristic spots, but close enough from the main attractions of the city. The atmosphere invites you to a minimalistic and cozy Japanese design, while the food is equally pleasant and fulfilling. The teishoku hugged our souls with a delicious taste of homemade food made with care by the family running the business. It’s a must stop for anyone visiting Nara! ”

- Christiane Yshida -

“ Hidden gem opposite the crowded usual food street outside the Kintetsu-Nara station. Not a loud place so you won’t know it’s an eatery until u look closer to it. We found it by chance as well. The tempura set is nice and cheap! ”

- Alex C -

“ This is a lunch spot offering a peaceful and simple atmosphere, standing out from other bustling restaurants. The menu includes homemade-style meals, with options like tempura and croquettes sets priced at just 1,100 yen each. The food is delicious, and the staff took great care of us. If you’re passing through Nara, I highly recommend stopping by for lunch! ”

- Komon Sookkamon -

“ One of my favorite restaurants in Japan. Super fresh ingredients, well prepared and very tasty. Friendly staff. Can't recommend more! ”

- Alain Phe -

“ This is probably the best meal we had in our 17 days trip to Japan. The restaurant is lovely, food is absolutely delicious and well presented. And yes, there is a sign in front saying that the staff can only speak Japanese but the menu is very simple (for the day we visited, they had set meal of menchi katsu or tempura) and the staff was very kind to speak and explain slowly so with my little Japanese, we could order and pay without any problems. ”
